Stock sizes are for a 215mm (9") block work wall. Simply bed in and block around the frame and then silicon in the glass. How to "Retro Fit" one of our frames into an existing pond wall
In this case you are going to "retro fit" an 1800 x 600 x 220 mm frame. Firstly you should check the strength of the existing wall, has it had any rebar added to the wall when the pond was built? if you are in any doubt you can add rebar into the slot that you will cut for the frame lugs, this will add strength to the wall around the window opening. The frames have lugs welded on the ends these lugs have holes in so that you can pass a rebar down the through the lugs and ideally down into the lower courses of blocks into the footings, as once this is filled with concrete this will form a reinforced pillar with the frame cemented in.
Once you have marked out the position of your window don't forget to check that there is no pipe work that will be interfered with when you cut out for the window. You then simply grind through the wall in sections, it is better to cut about 10 mm inside the finished lines especially if you have face bricks to the out side of the wall, you can then grind through the remaining section until you have the required size. The frames are very good for size so just give a couple of mm clearance.
With the window opening cut to the required length of 1802 x the depth of 610 for an infinity style window, this will allow 10 mm for a bed of mortar. If you are having a four sided frame with a lintel over then you would have the 600 for the frame +10 mm for the mortar under the frame and 10 mm for the mortar above the frame + the thickness of the lintel an finish with your coping stone.
You will need to grind a slot of about 100 mm x 60 mm down either end of the cutout for the window, you can then drill down into the block work to take out a similar shape, so that the rebar will go down as far as the footings if possible and be cemented in. This will allow you to drop the frame straight down onto your bed of 10 mm mortar to level the frame, once level the frame should be supported. You can then add the rebar through both end lugs and down into the footings, then fill with concrete.

Wood will move with the weather, so if you are thinking of putting a window in a pond constructed of wood, you don't want the movement to put pressure on the glass.
The way we install a window into a wooden pond is to install the glass into a frame that slots through the aperture in the pond wall but is not mechanically fixed to the timber, we would use a liner fixed with silicone to the frame flange. This gives the glass, frame and liner an independent seal that should not be affected by any movement in the structure.
